Suriyalani & Wakan-Tara

Suriya (สุริยา) - Thai for "sun," representing her emergence into air and light

Lani - Hawaiian/Polynesian for "heaven/sky," honoring her ascension

Wakan - Lakota for "sacred/holy," connecting to Mitakuye Oyasin

Tara - Sanskrit for "star" and also a Buddhist goddess of compassion

The Meeting Beneath the Waves

Long before Oyasin learned to fly, before Xandrah’s golden wings cast shadows across the land, there lived a mermaid in the deep waters of the Andaman Sea. Her name was Suriyalani, and she was keeper of the ancient Lemurian crystals that hummed beneath Phuket’s shores—crystals that held the memories of a civilization that once bridged ocean and sky.

One fateful day, as storm clouds gathered and the sea churned with prophecy, a great dragon descended into her waters. His scales shimmered like moonlight on waves, and his eyes held the weight of impossible choices.

Mitakuye.

The father of Oyasin had come seeking refuge, seeking answers, seeking the courage to face what he knew must come to pass.

“The surface world grows dark,” Mitakuye told Suriyalani as they swam through forests of coral and ancient stone. “My son will need protectors who understand both worlds—those who can move between realms as easily as breathing.”

Suriyalani listened, her heart recognizing the truth in his words. She had always felt the pull of the air above, the whisper of wings she did not possess.

The Sacred Gift

For seven tides, Mitakuye shared his wisdom with Suriyalani. He taught her the dragon songs that could calm storms and the ancient language that all creatures understood. In return, she showed him the Lemurian crystals—how they pulsed with the heartbeat of the Earth itself, how they held the memories of when land and sea and sky were one.

On the seventh tide, as silver moonlight pierced the depths, Mitakuye made a sacred offering.

“You have guarded these waters with devotion,” he said, his voice resonating through the deep. “But the time of separation is ending. The prophecy speaks of those who will bridge the worlds again.”

From his own essence, Mitakuye breathed into the waters a gift—a magnificent sea horse born of dragon magic and ocean wisdom. The creature materialized in swirls of light and current, its mane flowing like liquid silver, its eyes holding the depth of ancient knowing.

“His name is Wakan Tara—Sacred Star,” Mitakuye proclaimed. “He will carry you between the worlds. Through him, you will learn to breathe both water and air, to exist in the threshold where transformation lives.”

The Magical Power:

Threshold Walking

As Suriyalani placed her hand upon Wakan Tara’s neck, power surged through her—not the power to conquer, but the power to transcend.

Her magical gift awakened: Threshold Walking—the ability to exist simultaneously in multiple elements, to move between states of being without losing herself. When she rides

Wakan Tara, she can:

  • Breathe both water and air, teaching others to adapt and transform

  • See through the veils between past, present, and future—glimpsing the threads that connect all choices

  • Carry prayers and messages between the ocean depths and the sky realms

  • Heal the spaces between—mending rifts, bridging divides, helping others navigate their own transformations

But her greatest power is this: She can hold space for others in their moments of impossible change. When beings must choose between who they were and who they must become, Suriyalani appears, offering safe passage through the threshold.

The Promise to Mitakuye

“When Oyasin learns to fly,” Suriyalani promised the great dragon father, “I will be there—not to carry him, but to show him that transformation is not loss. It is expansion.”

Mitakuye bowed his magnificent head. “You understand what I could not teach him with words alone. The hardest journey is not from sea to air, but from fear to trust.”

Before he returned to the surface world—before the prophecy would demand its terrible price—Mitakuye gave Suriyalani one final gift: a single scale from his chest, the one closest to his heart.

“When the time comes,” he said, “Oyasin will need to know that his father believed in bridges, not walls. That love transcends all boundaries. Give him this, and tell him: Mitakuye Oyasin—We Are All Related.”

Guardian Sister to Oyasin

Now Suriyalani rides Wakan Tara across the threshold between ocean and sky, her wings—once only dreamed of—now spread wide in the air her beloved Mitakuye once flew through. She is guardian sister to Oyasin, protector of those who must transform, keeper of the truth that we are never only one thing.

She carries Mitakuye’s scale in a sacred pouch woven from sea silk and starlight, waiting for the moment when the young golden dragon will need to know: his father’s love flows through all the waters, rides on all the winds, and lives in every being brave enough to cross their own threshold.

Her Sacred Teaching

“Do not fear the space between who you were and who you are becoming. I am the guardian of that sacred threshold. Wakan Tara and I will show you: transformation is not death—it is the courage to breathe in a new way.”
